Genting Sanyen Power Plant site visit by IET Uniten

Finally, after the delees and delays, Uniten IET Student Chapter's site trip to Genting Sanyen Power plant was successfully done yesterday. It took me 2.5 months, postponed 2 times, to settle the whole trip. Nevertheless, it was a great and informative one. All of the participants were satisfied and happy.

Firstly i need to thank my seniors in GSP - Yan Fu and Tian Ek, for their willingness to help me thru the event. They were really helpful and i couldn't ask for more! Both are Uniten Alumni and GSP scholars as well! Thousand lines of thank you!

Most problem came from Student Affairs' Unit... Red tape, cut budget... Wouldn't have gave more mandarin oranges!!! (except for En. Fariz and Pn. Hawa)

It was a visit I initiated since last semester (last year) for the club, and i quickly form a team-up with Aisyah, whom i brought in to IET, and together with the help of whole board, 40 students (1 bas full) departed Uniten at 2.45pm to Kuala Langat, Banting yesterday (It would have been more, it was a popular and interesting event).

We reach there half an hour later...

Firstly, yan fu (engineer) gave a presentation and overview of the company, financial break-down and of course methodology of electricity generating. There run 720 MW using gas and steam turbine, with Petronas providing gas fuel, and with Swiss company Alstom as operating and maintenance contractor. GSP has power plants in China, India, Indonesia....

In the meeting room for the presentation

After that it was touring around the site for the next 1 hour.

Behind us is the National Grid system connection

We also went to the operation control room (Alstom), gas turbine room, steam tower (very hot and warm), where pictures are not allowed to be taken.

The gas absorber to take air from the atmosphere

It was a great afternoon. We learnt a lot and gained valuable practical experience. The best part was that the engineers were willing to share with us their knowledge and thoughts. Everyone were throwing questions (all sorts e.g. how much bonus, how's life there), but they were very patient and answered all!

Souvenir from us (from left, yan fu, tian ek, me, and iyn)

We departed at 7.00pm, and that was after all the photo-craze people finished snapping and flashing their cams!

At the plant i managed to come across this wall paper outside the control room..

A new meaning of TEAM!

Overall, it was a good outing for everyone, and as well as the club. We are an engineering society, and i hope more events like this can be organized! It's a club worth to join! (Just 10 bucks / year)
Next up, we'll have Mr. Puvaneswaren from AirAsia Academy to give a free talk about team management and leadership skills. We are paying for him to talk, but for the sake of our members, we make it free for all!!! Do come! It's on 13.3.08, at DK1, COIT. Everyone is invited!

A big thank you again to both the GSP lads, for the hard work and OT that we caused! We really enjoyed and appreciate the trip!

And to my beloved and hard-working board, thanks for the effort. Great job! It's the satisfaction you get that is priceless after all the hard work!

See you guys at our next event!!!
